Minced Steak Tacos Recipe

Celebrate National Taco day with my minced steak tacos recipe that tastes like they have just been snatched right out of Mexico.



Tacos are my go to meal to cook when I have friends over, I’m basically famous for them and that was way before they became major on Instagram; yes you can say I made them a thing – You’re welcome.

My recipe is so easy, the only question you’ll be asking is soft or hard shell tacos?


Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 1hr 30minutes

Ingredients to serve 4 :

  • 750g steak mince
  • 1/2 a cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of paprika
  • 1 tablespoon of cumin
  • 2 tablespoons of chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 tomatoes diced
  • 1 diced onion
  • 2 diced garlic cloves
  • 1/2 a chopped red pepper
  • 1 beef oxo cube

To garnish:

  • 1 tomato diced
  • 1/2 iceberg lettuce shredded
  • 12 tortillas or hard shell tacos
  • 1 avocado diced
  • a handful of coriander
  • grated cheese to garnish

Step 1:  Add the mince to a pan and begin to cook stirring and grounding the mince frequently.  Once the mince starts to brown add the rest of the ingredients except the water and stir for 3-5 minutes.

Step 2: Add the water and crumble and oxo cube into the pan and stir.  Put the lid on and leave to cook on a slow heat for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure the ingredients aren’t sticking to the pan.  In this cooking period, the juices should simmer and have a better consistency, if the mince seems too “juicy” cook for a longer.

Step 3: Once the mince is cooked, prepare the garnish items.  I like to put my tacos into the oven on a low setting for 2-3 minutes so they are warm and crispy if you have decided to have hard shell tacos (my favourite).dsc_0666

Step 4: Eat the meal and give them something to taco about!
