So, you’re probably thinking, “Turkey, why?” and a couple of years ago I would have agreed with, “I know right, gross!” but over Christmas I gave it another chance and I really enjoyed it (Babs, you did well, my love).  This recipe will have you forgetting about beef burgers and chicken burgers, plus its also healthier, which is an added bonus.  You’re welcome.

FYI:  The burger pictured above is Jake’s burger, I have gherkins, I aint no wimp!

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 15 minutes

Ingredients to serve 6:

  • 800 g Turkey mince
  • 2 stems of spring onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 egg
  • 1 table spoon of black pepper
  • 1 table spoon of paprika
  • 1 table spoon of garlic powder (we LOVE garlic)
  • 3 table spoons of breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon of red chilli flakes
  • 1 teaspoon on parsley

To garnish:

  • burger buns
  • lettuce
  • gherkins (or cucumber)
  • onion
  • tomato
  • cheese slices
  • ketchup, french mustard – its up to you.

Step 1. Mince the spring onion and garlic and place in a mixing bowl, along with all the other ingredients.

Step 2. Mix together with your hands, preferably with gloves if you have them.  Knead like a dough so all the ingredients are completely mixed in.  If the mixture feels too mushy, add more breadcrumbs, this will help form the patties.

Step 3. Once satisfied with the texture of your mixture, divide your mixture into six pieces.  Roll each piece into a ball and flatten into a patty.  I then put them into individual pieces of greaseproof paper so they are easy to transfer – less germs.

Step 4. Put your pan on a medium heat and add olive oil, or if you’re grilling, put them grill on.  Space the patties out, as you don’t want them to touch and stick together.  Cook for about 5 minutes each side, or until they go brown.  Now is the time to prepare the burger buns (lightly toast), lettuce, tomato, onion for serving.

Step 5.  Once cooked, add the cheese slices and turn off the pan or grill, the cheese will melt from the existing heat.  Place the buns on a plate, and begin to build your burger with the sauces and other garnish ingredient, then place the patty on top!

Step 6. Serve with chips or a salad, on this occasion I made chips with sweet and everyday potatoes.

lettuce be, together, FOREVER!

  1. Very moreish. Turkey’s leaner than chicken and is best eaten like this rather than roasted, as it takes ages to get rid of.
